(Methyl)Sequencing
Bisuphate treatment of DNA sample converts only methylated cytosines to Uracil, whereas methylated ones remain unchanged. This is followed by calculating the percentage of methylated cytosines in the read counts.
RRBS helps in sequencing only the CpG-rich regions in the genome using a specific restriction enzyme that cuts the DNA at only CCGG sites.
It serves as a cost-effective method to investigate DNA methylation patterns, mainly at gene promoters and CpG islands.
