Whole Exome Sequencing

Exons are the protein coding regions of the genome and are together are termed as the exome, accounting for only ~1-3% of an organism’s genome.

WES helps in sequencing exome which contains 80-85% disease/function-related variants and thus helps in identifying important disease-causing mutations in diverse studies like population genetics, genetic diseases, and cancer.
